2001 XXW2500 72"

Current date: July 2016

Home owner, averaging 7 acres of brutal slopes and rock infested terrain.

I purchased my 2001 in 2010 from a commercial lawn service. Unknown hours as the meter had failed. However, it was clear to me the mower had been well used.

Installed new hour meter that failed in 2015 showing 1200 +/- hours. Best guess the ole girl has 3000-4000 hours on her.

First, this thing is a beast! I've mistreated it like nothing I've owned before. IMO, one should not expect a beast to be refined.

Yes, it's ugly, however most beasts are. The 25 HP Kohler is showing it's age and now has has just enough power to tackle moderately tall, thick grass.

Like many, I've had issues with the mower deck design. I'm covered with grass after most cuttings and the blade engagement mechanism had failed twice before I re-designed it.

Hydros are still going strong, although the gear box is starting to whine. The older DCs are tough and functional.

However, one should have moderate mechanical skills to take care of the little items that tend to pop up with 10-15 year old mowers.

Plse forgive poor grammar, Kevin

I hope you the best, for I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER DIXIE, they don't stand behind their product, and the service is the worst. Good luck to you for me mine is junk!
