Great Dane Lawn Mower: Review of the Zero Turn Rider
The Great Dane lawn mower was compared to other zero turn riders in the following categories...
Cut: Rating B+
Great Dane continues to use its Generation II cutting deck. This deck gives a good cut in almost all conditions. Very similar to the Bobcat Predator Pro deck.
Durability: Rating B+
A solid, heavy duty machine. Similar to the Scag Turf Tiger in design. Built well, but not overkill.
Handling and Balance: Rating A-
A smooth, well-designed machine. At 78 inches long, it is very maneuverable. There is the option of a standard ZTR control stick or a between the leg control (like the Walker mower).
Great Dane has also upgraded their hydro pumps to 12cc. This has greatly improved ground speed and torque.
Available Accessories: Rating B-
Not much to discuss here. Great Dane does not offer a vacuum, mulch kit, etc. It’s a shame because they have a good mower.
Maintenance and Ingenuity: Rating B
The Great Dane lawn mower is a very basic, solid machine. A major shortcoming is the small fuel capacity--only 8 gallons. Hopefully its new owner, Ariens, will address this issue and the lack of available accessories.
Note: After being bought out by Auburn Consolidated, Great Dane has since been sold to the Ariens company. Maybe, this mower will find a stable home with Ariens. It's a great machine, which at times, has lacked company support. This has been a problem in the past, when needing parts.
