Cut: Rating A

John Deere’s 7-Iron deck remains a winner. One of the best cutting decks in the industry.

Durability: Rating C+

The 800-Series is a brand new design and is totally different from the 700-Series. John Deere really should have done more testing on the 800-Series because there are several weak points: From the I-bolts supporting the deck to the belts prematurely wearing.

Handling and Balance: Rating B-

Very tight and very responsive. Actually, it is too tight and too responsive. The controls are overly sensitive, which makes it difficult to track straight.

Available Accessories: Rating B

Mulch on Demand kit looks promising, but is too new to tell. Their vacuum system is a bit flimsy. I would expect more accessories for a company this size.

Maintenance and Ingenuity: Rating C+

John Deere needs to go back to the drawing board and fix its weaknesses. They have a possible winner, but the improvements must be done. I believe that a company of John Deere's size and good reputation will eventually work out these issues.
