Scag Mower: Review of the SWZ Hydro Walk Behind
This Scag mower was compared to other top walk behinds in the following categories...
Cut: Rating B+
Scag’s Advantage deck leaves a great cut. The wide discharge chute really disperses clippings well. The deck design really minimizes blowout.
Durability: Rating A
This machine lives up to Scag’s reputation as being tough. They can go through hell and keep on mowing. The only weakness is the occasional stress crack in the deck. However, this is easily welded.
Handling and Balance: Rating B
A heavy-duty solid machine. It is low to the ground, which is not liked by taller operators (over 6 ft). A drawback is the pistol grips, which are hard on the hands and wrists. If you are cutting long hours, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome should be a concern. Although most other brands only offer pistol grips too, I expect more from Scag since they are an industry leader and pricey. I’d like to see Scag come up with something like Exmark’s ECS.
Maintenance and Ingenuity: Rating B+
Easy to maintain. There are many grease points and spindles. Very solid performer that asks for just basic maintenance. Scag should really address their control system to compete with Exmark’s ECS and Hustler’s H-Bar system.
