The T242 Model trimmer falls in between the 231 and 261 models. It seems like a nice blend of the two.

Weight to Power: B

The T242 weighs about 11.5lbs and sports a 24cc engine. Definitely a boost from the 231. There is a little throttle lag, as well as, a 30 second or so warm up time. Not the most powerful, but a solid and smooth trimmer.

Comfort: B+

Low vibration, decent weight, and well-balanced make this unit very user friendly.

Durability: A-

So far seems very tough. A simple two-cycle design and well thought out.

Ease of Start: B+

While the 242 fires right up, I’m not crazy about the 30 second warm up time.

Value for Money: B+

The 242’s are a good value at around $280. Shindaiwa, like Stihl and Redmax, hold their value well, so they can always be sold on Ebay if you want to make a change.
