Hustler Sport 2011 Mower Review
After owning three John Deeres over a 21 year period without any problems, I decided I wanted a Zero Turn with a welded deck over a stamped deck.
My choice after months of research was the Hustler Sport with the Briggs & Stratton 17.5 engine.
I purchased the mower from an authorized Hustler/John Deere dealer in June of 2011 with a season discount of $500.00. After ten hours of use, I had the dealer pick it up for the break-in service interval.
Fast forward to Spring of 2012 whereas it has now been back to the dealer three times, once for throwing both belts breaking a drive cooling fan and twice for engine repair. The first engine repair was for the bottom of the connecting rod coming off with the second trip for a bent valve rod and broken cam.
The mower for the price is a great value and does a great job when it is working! Looking back, I wished I had either gone with another brand or moved up to the Kawasaki up-grade.
According to the tech that has done all of the work on my Sport, the B & S 17.5 is a two year production which they have experienced many problems with.
Currently my Sport sits in the repair portion of the dealership waiting on a service representative from Briggs & Stratton.
