Scag Lawn Mowers: Review of the Wildcat
You really can't go wrong with any Scag lawn mowers. While the Turf Tiger remains its best selling unit, the Wildcat offers a solid alternative for less money. The Wildcat is the Turf Tiger's younger, slightly smaller brother.
This zero turn rider was compared to other top brands in the following categories...
Cut: Rating A
Like the Turf Tiger, the Wildcat also has the Velocity deck. The Velocity deck leaves a beautiful cut---especially in thick, overgrown turf.
The clippings are discharged a bit long. However, the wide discharge opening allows a very even, clean dispersal.
Durability: Rating A
Very tough mower. It's simple design is relatively trouble free.
Handling and Balance: Rating B
For a compact ZTR, it is too long at 83 inches. This makes navigating around obstacles a bit awkward. The length may cause a space problem on trailers as well.
Available Accessories: Rating A
Scag makes a great vacuum system, with a large capacity (16 bushels). The mulching system (Hurricane) is pretty good. The accessories are well thought out and are as durable as the mower itself.
Maintenance and Ingenuity: Rating B+
This mower is easy to maintain. It is belt driven, rather than shaft driven.
Suggestions for improvement would be to shorten the machine and increase the fuel capacity. It only holds 8 gallons.
